The art of stitching 360º video

Our proprietary stitching algorithms allow seamless stitching, rendering and transcoding. The camera shoots at a focal distance from 1 metre to infinity and during the stitching process we choose an automatic stitching distance. We can also offer clients custom stitching services to select the best ‘stitching distance’ per frame to improve the quality of image blending in the final panoramic before edit and grade. The particular distance of a subject from the camera and its position relative to the lenses is taken into account for optimal output.

Once the sequential image files are stitched and rendered to .mov file, then the footage can be edited and graded and any tracking or CGI integration can be applied.  360º video typically becomes available as a flat panoramic video file. This guarantees an optimal work flow with non-linear editing suites like Final Cut Pro, which can be used to edit and grade the content like traditional video. The 360º videos can then be saved in standard formats, but generally a Flash video format is chosen for flawless integration and playback in the interactive yellowBird player.
