Lightbulb moment!

Whilst working for clients all over the world providing 360° photography services, Marc Groothelm and Rafaël Redczus had the idea to take the next step into Surround Video.

The internet wasn't technically advanced enough for this type of content however, so the idea was locked away for a couple of years.

2007

Preparing for take off

After two years of tweaking the production, playback and distribution technology of Surround Video, yellowBird was founded in 2009 and launched in April for the finals of the start-up rally during The Next Web. Surround Video content instantly took off, catching the imagination of the digital, creative and broadcast industries.

2009

We have lift off!

From 2010, yellowBird developed from a start-up into a fully fledged organisation. We staffed up with all the relevant technical and organisational personnel and opened an office in Groningen, The Netherlands. 

yellowBird continued to set the standard for Surround Video technology.

2010

Spreading our wings

yellowBird spreads its wings to Brazil and London. After winning two FWA awards, a Digital Emmy and expanding our creative portfolio, yellowBird starts working on proprietary recording hardware and mobile solutions.

yellowBird creates an iPhone and iPad application in line with the progression of second screen gyroscopic technology.

2011

Reaching altitude

yellowBird adds another office in Russia, expands the UK office and continues further internationalisation in other areas.

Mobile solutions are available and demand is rapidly increasing. Our technological standardisation and intuitive work flows are key in order to manage the variety of creative projects.

2012

Our vision

We have grown from a tech savvy start-up to a valuable and effective creative marketing partner, offering the most professional contribution in the field of Surround Video worldwide.

Recently we have started making Surround Video kit acquisition, post-production and playback work flows available to selected partners. yellowBird will also continue to focus on integrating the Surround Video technology in an even wider variety of channels. Live broadcasts, simulcasts, mobile platform apps, local installations, Microsoft Kinect support, VR goggles or dome projections.

What’s still up our sleeve? Smart TV and set-top box integration, mobile live broadcasting, custom camera rigs…There’s still a lot to achieve whilst growing Surround Video into a standard genre.
